Our story

Thanks for visiting Dak and Ju. We’re two friends who love food more than, truly, anything else. We met in college during a study abroad program in Italy, where we spent many nights double fisting cones of gelato and limoncello. After years of saying, “let’s friggen’ do something,” we’re attempting to carve out this space for ourselves to share recipes and techniques we appreciate.

We whole-heartedly believe that food should be approachable and are excited when people get into the kitchen, whether that be to attempt a new recipe themselves or pour the chef more wine.

Hey, I’m Dakota. My infatuation with the food industry manifested in ways from rolling around the kitchen floor of my grandmother’s bed and breakfast, getting my first kitchen gig at 16 as a cook in a Greek restaurant, to now this project. I have a background in food writing but have spent the last four years doing business development and marketing at tech companies. I try to pack fabulous lunches and spend a large part of my day dreaming of the perfect scone. I like my butter cold and my humans weird.

Favorite food: nacho cheese from a stadium, any stadium.

Hi there- Julie here. I think I’ve always known that my future would involve food in some capacity- maybe I was just born into it. Growing up I didn’t think it was strange to have a well loved jar of bacon grease used for cooking in the pantry, or The Measuring Cup, a literal, small ceramic mug we used for “measuring” in lieu of actual measuring tools for Sunday morning waffles. I’m currently honing my kitchen skills as sous chef in a small but mighty kitchen in Seattle.

Favorite food: huckleberry pie, no ice cream.
